Like a real date? Isn't that usually how it works when people want to get to know each other? Look, I don't want to rush anything. You're right; there's too much at stake. You're Gibbs," Tony said as if that explained everything. Gibbs huffed out a laugh and ran his knuckles down Tony's cheek. I'm different when I'm with someone I really care about.
Like I said, there's a lot you don't know about me. May I kiss you goodnight?
What the kiss lacked in unbridled passion it more than conveyed affection and an unspoken promise of more. Gibbs broke the kiss and smiled at Tony, whose eyes were now flashing with happiness. Tony smiled back looking almost bashful. Gibbs shook his head to break the spell.
Maybe two dozen," Gibbs said with a chuckle.
Gibbs nodded and turned the doorknob to leave. He opened the door then stopped and turned back with a serious expression on his face, "You were really amazing up there on that stage tonight, Tony. I had no idea you were such an accomplished musician. I'm really proud of you. It was late when he got home and despite how tired he was, Gibbs only managed to get a couple of hours of disturbed sleep.
Thoughts of Tony and last night's revelations ran through his mind. On the one hand, Gibbs was overjoyed at the prospect of building a romantic relationship with Tony. On the other hand, he was suddenly apprehensive and wondered if maybe it was a horrible idea. It troubled Gibbs deeply that in reality he really didn't know Tony at all. He was a top-notch professional when it came to the job, tirelessly working to find that one missing piece that more times than not broke a case wide open.
The Tony he saw last night was a complete stranger to him, an enigma of sorts. As much as it would break his own heart, Gibbs knew that he would have to end whatever this thing was with Tony before it even got started.
Quite simply, Tony was from a world to which Gibbs did not belong. Gibbs always saw the fancy designer suits as armor that Tony wore to protect himself. He always seemed more confident and more at ease than he did on more casual dress days.
It dawned on Gibbs sometime around in the morning that the Armani and Gucci-clad Tony was the real deal, and that the more carefree, casual Tony was the deflection. Gibbs was struck with a sudden pang of sadness knowing that a simple man like himself was way out of Tony's league.
After finally dragging himself upstairs for a shower, Gibbs spent a few hours down in the basement wallowing in self-pity and wondering if by the end of the night he would lose Tony forever.
He didn't see any way that Tony would still want to work with him or even speak to him and he couldn't blame him. Cleaning up his workbench didn't offer the distraction he had hoped, and in frustration Gibbs picked up one of his many sanding blocks and threw it across the room where it splintered into a hundred pieces after hitting the cinderblock wall. What the hell," a familiar voice called out from halfway down the basement stairs. He pulled a sawhorse from against the wall and sat down with his drink.
Gibbs crossed his arms across his chest and asked, "Comfy, Tobias? What the fuck is your problem," Fornell asked curiously, wondering what could possibly be bugging his friend.
Well, I know you didn't get laid last night. If you had you wouldn't be acting like an asshole right now. So tell me, what happened with DiNutso," Fornell asked casually with a hint of a smirk curling on his lips. What makes you think …? It was pretty fucking obvious to me. Something's going on with you two and, by the way, he looked fucking hot as hell up on that stage.
His fists clenched at his sides and his eyes flashing was all the confirmation Fornell needed. We've been friends too damn long.
Talk to me," Fornell offered sincerely as he refilled both of their drinks. Across town Tony wasn't much better off. He had taken a hot shower after Gibbs left and fell asleep almost as soon as his head hit the pillow. Despite crashing hard after last night's adrenaline rush wore off, Tony woke up at 3: What did Gibbs mean when he said there was a lot I didn't know about him?

He said he's different when he's with someone he really cares about. Does that mean me? What is he hiding? What the hell did he mean by I have a different side he doesn't know at all? Was starting something with Gibbs really a good idea? What if things didn't work out? Would they still be able to work together? Could they still be friends? Should I just end it before it even starts? Tony gave up trying to fall back to sleep so he got up and headed to the living room to watch TV hoping he would be able to nod off during whatever infomercial was on at that ungodly hour.
He headed to the kitchen to start a pot of coffee and grabbed a bottle of water out of his refrigerator. After a good fifteen minutes of stretching, Tony grabbed his phone and keys and headed out into the crisp early morning air. Tony had discovered that he could work out a lot of his problems while running and welcomed the opportunity to clear his mind.
Normally he would grab his iPod and ear buds and run to the beat of his favorite blues and jazz artists, but today he wanted the solitude running provided. Tony waved at the few familiar people he encountered as he ran is usual route at a relaxed pace. Two miles into his run Tony became aware of another person running just behind and to the left of him, their footfalls matching his stride for stride.
The well-used running and bicycle path cut through a park and along the Potomac River. Tony grew annoyed with each passing minute and he suddenly stopped and rounded on the person following him. We always talk about the superficial element and the things that make us laugh.
But he wouldn't be doing what he does if he wasn't really good at it. It's a complex character, and that's why people love it. He is an only child, but has been cut off from his maternal family's fortune.
This has resulted in a dislike of anything relating to the Civil War. It is stated in "Flesh and Blood" that his father is pretending to be rich when he is actually bankrupt. As a result, father and son had a frosty relationship. Aside from the odd comment or casual reference, Tony rarely mentioned his parents until Season 7, when DiNozzo Senior makes his first appearance. In " Sins of the Father ", he admits to Gibbs that, although his dad still "makes [him] crazy", he still loves him but has been unable to tell his dad so.
Tony and his father also reconcile their differences. Other family members mentioned in NCIS episodes include a button-collecting grandfather who bequeathed Tony one thousand shares in a dot-com, and a number of uncles.
His uncle Vincenzo is a butcher on Long Island. Education and work history[ edit ] After being expelled from six boarding schools in four years, Tony managed to graduate from the Remington Military Academy in Tiverton, Rhode Island, and graduated from The Ohio State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in physical education. He mentions having broken his leg during this game or more accurately, Pitt breaking it for him. At the end of the episode " Red Cell ", he begins to tell a story about his fraternity days before being interrupted by Gibbs.
He has worked in three different police departments— PeoriaPhiladelphiaand Baltimore —staying in each location for an average of two years. This event occurred prior to the NCIS pilot and the circumstances of his hiring are largely unknown, but Tony once jokingly claimed that it was because he "smiled". However, at the beginning of season six, he is reassigned to his original team back at NCIS headquarters in Washington, D. Director Shepard offers Tony a team of his own, but he declines because Gibbs was experiencing some after-effects from his coma and also out of reluctance to leave the team he was already with.
During season 8 he meets E. Barrett, who took the post as team leader in Spain that he had previously rejected. Jonas Cobb and the resignation of Jarvis's predecessor, Philip Davenport. Although Vance seems reluctant, Jarvis overrules him and gives DiNozzo his first assignment: At the end of the episode, DiNozzo is left injured after being shot in the shoulder by an FBI agent who is actually an impostor and who had also killed Cade while attempting to frame DiNozzo for the murder.
Characterization[ edit ] Tony is written as a streetwise, promiscuous former homicide detective. The targets of this behavior are either victims of Tony's quests for new sources of amusement, or those for whom he believes he has reason to be concerned. Tony also finds parallels between the cinema and his everyday life. This occasionally proves to be more useful than aggravating, as when his application of a solution from the movie Speed ends in the successful resolution of a case. BellisarioTony has also been established as a fan of the television series Magnum, P.
Although his immature behavior often gets Tony into trouble, he also demonstrates that he is an insightful agent when the need arises. On more than one occasion he surprises his colleagues when an outwardly immature action on his part actually causes new evidence to be uncovered. With the addition Ellie BishopTony and McGee begin calling her "Probie" and similarly order her around, claiming that "it's part of the job".
He also once donated to a sperm bankbut no one wanted to use his sperm. Later, he drove a Ford Mustang. The car was destroyed by a bomb planted on it in an attempt to kill DiNozzo's significant other, Dr. DiNozzo has also had a close call with the pneumonic plague commonly called bubonic plague Yersinia pestis infectionand he sustained slight lung damage because of the infection.
The character is initially portrayed as a "technophobe" who, like his superior, has limited patience with the scientific method and technical terms. However, he can be seen to develop an aptitude for technology in later episodes, and has been depicted hacking into computer systems. In "Dead Man Talking", he is able to improvise a cover identity to get close to a suspect when he feels the investigation is going nowhere.

The results are in — you've got the right guy. Every year, Abby and Tony both took all of their allotted vacation days. Gibbs set a new precedent. For a man who went years — literally — without taking a vacation day, he took at least a few each year.
Every time he claimed to visit his aging father but he often returned with a tan too impressive for the Midwest. For a man of advanced years, Ducky began attending more conferences and at greater distances. As he continued to age, more often Jimmy Palmer would accompany him.
Oddly enough, sometimes Breena Palmer would join them. For a man who enjoyed the finest things in life — and indulging in them frequently — it did not go unnoticed by a trained observer that Tony did not buy a new watch in decades. Rolex or not, the lack of investment in his appearance seemed unnatural.
The watch inscription garnered even more interest from the gossipy staff members. Less than two years after Ziva's departure, one ambitious agent caught a glimpse of the inscription one rare instance when protocol required Tony separate himself from his watch.
That which is essential is invisible to the eye was written in clear, small letters. Now any changes Ziva's disappearance made on Tony DiNozzo seemed to be ending. On that day, the entire floor mingled in the tiny break room, sharing pieces of the Happy Retirement Tony!
Tony glanced at his watch. Actually, five hours and forty-three minutes. Age, thankfully, had not dampened her enthusiasm.
They thought it was only right to let me settle into retirement first," he grinned. Looking around the room, sipping his coffee, he shook his head and looked at his two closest friends. Abby nodded sadly, glancing around at a room of practical strangers who happened to share the same square footage of office space as Tony.
Tony glanced down at his bare hands. The cool had only worsened with age. Abby glanced down, shaking her head for a moment before her blue eyes met him with compassion. McGee smiled back, taking her hand and squeezing it gently. McGee looked affronted, "and I would have? Abby shrugged while Tim sipped his coffee. I won't be fully retiring, I still have to fulfill my publisher's contract," he explained.
Tim glanced around the break room at the slowly dwindling crowd. Stepping closer, he rested a shoulder on his friend's shoulder. Abby stood between them, watching the verbal banter with a smile on her face. After what felt to Tony like forty-eight hours — but in fact was less than twenty-four — he stepped out of the cab, thanking the driver with a hefty tip.
He hitched his duffel higher up his shoulder and set his wheeled suitcase on the ground. He studied the tranquility, the well-manicured property with beautiful flowers and a remarkably well-maintained Corvette in the driveway.
